You will build your whole plan based on what you choose in this step, that is why I have Identified it as #1.

#2 Create a keyword , keyword phrase list of at least 50 keyword phrases. These words need to be associated with the “niche” market you have chosen. {I do not recommend you start out targeting single keywords, select keyword phrases about your niche that are two and three words in length. Concentrate on using keyword phrases that are two and three words in length.} To be honest with you I have never done very well with single keywords in my articles. It has been my experience that single keywords do not score high for me on the search engines. To develop your keyword phrase list go to Google Adwords and use their free keyword tool. It is an excellent marketing tool. Type in a single keyword that is associated with your “niche” market. Adwords will generate a list of two and three keyword phrases for you. Make sure you download or copy this list for future use when you are writing your articles.

#3 Now you are ready to start writing articles! What I do in my writing is just start writing what comes to mind that is pertinent to the niche I have selected. If you have to do any research do it before you start writing. This is also an excellent way to help with your articles structure. Start out writing by inserting your two and three word phrases as you go. When you are writing your articles make sure that you do not repeat your keyword phrase but every 100 words. For example, if I were going to write an article that included “crappie fishing” in my first paragraph , then I could not repeat this phrase for 100 words. There are ways to mix your phrases up to get the same ranking without duplicating your phrases; example instead of using “article automation” you could use “automate articles” and not be penalized by the search engines for excessive keywords. There are ways to write your article using key word phrases without compromising the quality of your article so always proof read your article at least several times before publishing.

#4 Create a list of article directories to submit your article too. There are some steps to this that I recommend you use because all article directories are not created equal. You need to build a list of directories that prioritized by their Google rankings. First thing you need to do is go to Google and type in “article directory” in the search box. The results will give you 1000’nds of sites to use in your list development. There are two sites you must put on your list right now and they are ezinearticles.com and searchwarp.com. I use a free Google ranking tool that is simple to use to locate each sites ranking. Type in the following keyword phrase “website ranking tools for Google” at Google’s search box to find a free ranking tool suitable for you, or just e-mail me and I send the link I use. Concentrate your list on rankings of “6”,”5”,”4”,”3” . Article directories with these rankings will get you the most website traffic.

Perhaps you are planning to begin an online business. If so, you need to be sure to avoid the mistakes made by others. Don’t immediately assume that it’s a good idea to implement every idea that your hear or read about. Always gather multiple opinions.

Anyone who has been in Internet marketing for longer than two days knows that it is essential to develop multiple streams of income. Some beginning marketers can take this admonition too far, too quickly. I have seen sites that have products for sale, links to affiliate’s products and contextual advertising all on the same site. Sometimes all three appear on the same page.

Before I describe a much more sensible approach, let me explain why a multi-purpose site works against a marketer’s objectives. Each site, and certainly each page within a site, should have one purpose. Eventually every visitor to your website is going to leave your site, but you want to be able to stack the odds concerning how that visitor will leave.

If you have products that you want your visitors to purchase, your goal is to have them end up on your “thank you” page after checking out with their full shipping carts. Everything else that you do on that site should be aimed at getting them to that page.

In the case of either affiliate marketing or contextual advertising, you want to move them off your website. However, you want to move them in a way that brings you revenue, either in the form of a click on an ad or by going to your affiliate site in order to complete a purchase there. The way you encourage your visitors to move to the site with which you are affiliated is very different from the way in which you make it appealing to click on a contextual ad. Those two purposes can not be accomplished well on the same page and perhaps not within the same site.

A person involved in affiliate marketing knows the product’s strengths and weaknesses. The task is to highlight the needs of your site visitor so that it becomes obvious that the needs can be met by the affiliate’s product, or, at least, to leave the visitor wanting more information that can be obtained by visiting the vendor’s site (through your link to it).

In the case of contextual advertising, you don’t know what products or services will be promoted in the ads that are served to your site. You need to provide information that your visitor wants (based upon your keywords, page description, and so forth). At the same time, you let them know that there is other information (or even a product category) that they ought to be pursuing. Then, you just hope that one of the ads served on your page will coincide with the additional thirst you have created in your visitor.

So mixing potential revenue streams on the same page and, I believe, on the same site, means that you are working against yourself. You don’t want your prospective customers putting your product into a shopping cart and then disappearing from your site to pursue an affiliate product or by clicking on an ad. Instead, consider eventually building three sites (but not all at once). Work on your own product site. Find products that are complementary with your own product and endorse those on a separate site. Finally, if you feel you must, build a site for contextual advertising. (Personally, I would prefer to put the articles in a potential contextual advertising site into either my product site or affiliate site to draw visitors to the virtual locale where I could make a bigger profit, exchanging dollars for the cents that I would make with an ad click.)

Here are two exceptions to my advice, above. On your product site, you might want to use your thank you page to promote an affiliate offer. I sometimes place contextual advertising on my links pages. My thinking is that any visitors visiting my links have already probably decided to leave my site anyway, so there is no harm having them leave me a little money on their way out.

Whether you have a business that you want to move online or are looking to start a new one, you should eventually try to develop more than one income stream. Just make sure that you don’t attempt to do in on the same page!

When you start a new online business, there are so many things to do that it is easy to postpone addressing some of the most important aspects of marketing. One of the decisions that you can’t afford to omit from your early planning is your business’ positioning.

While the word positioning sounds like just another example of marketing jargon, its importance can’t be emphasized too much. Positioning is merely identifying what there is about your business that allows it to stand apart from all of your competitors–and, of course, communicating that to all of your potential customers.

-Service – Almost every business claims they have great service. If you can give exceptional service compared to your competitors, your clients will remember you. I remember calling a sour handyman to try to get him to my home for an emergency on a weekend. He acted like he didn’t want my business and then told me it was going to be $200 for him just to show up. I told him “never mind” and hung up. I called roto-router who gave me amazing service, a guarantee, and the whole bill was less than the other guy’s service call fee. I now use them for all my plumbing.

-Features and Appealing Benefits – Positioning is not just about what makes you different, it’s also about what you emphasize. Folgers announces to the world that it’s “mountain grown coffee” ( a feature). Guess what? All coffee is mountain grown. Folgers just claimed this feature first. What’s something that none of your competitors are talking about?

-Price Point – Not everyone can offer the lowest prices and still make a profit. But you must be certain to convince your prospect that your products and services are worth whatever it is that you charge.

-Negative Features – Is there something you don’t have that annoys customers of your competitors? I’m not saying use negative advertising, but just mention the feature and tie it to a benefit. I’m annoyed when I have to pay for parking to go shopping at Mall. Instead of touting free parking, a mall that wants to speak to me might declare, “you’ll never have to pay for parking”. This drives home the pain of shopping with a competitor without going negative.

-Authority – Many companies tout how long they’ve been in business. All of these things build trust in the mind of the consumer. What trust-building factors do you have that the competition does not?

-Etc. – Whatever you can think of that allows you to demonstrate that you are different from your competitors (in a good way, of course) is useful. That’s really all positioning is. Spend some time thinking through each phase of your business to see what you can point to in order to stand apart.

You will spend a great deal of time later developing your online business. You may even make subtle modifications to your positioning as you test what is working for you and what isn’t. Immediately, though, you must start working on your marketing positions. They are too important to postpone.
